The Difference Is In The Details
Reserve Pilot Chute
Powerful and proven technology.
Another primary advantage Mirage Systems has is our reserve pilot chute design. The Mirage reserve pilot chute is well known among riggers world-wide for its incredibly strong spring. By using a long steel spring with 40 lbs. minimum spring tension, we achieve a fast, powerful reserve deployment without having to expose any pilot chute cap. Combining a strong spring with a smaller diameter aluminum cap, we reduce top weight by 20% and cap surface area by 30%, resulting in a lighter pilot chute with less wind resistance. Our partial-mesh canopy profile is designed to achieve full inflation even at low wind speeds. You can be confident of rapid, full pressure inflation every time.
Reserve Freebag Design
Designed for durability and ease of packing.
Our reserve deployment system is a straightforward freebag-deployed square reserve. The G4 uses a molar-style freebag for durability and ease of packing. When packing, the molar bag makes it easier to maintain an area into which the reserve pilot chute sits, resulting in flatter pack jobs. We use an upgraded Parapak for strength. It resists tears or damage from packing, reserve deployment, and retrieval.
Reserve Ripcord Handle
Avoid accidental reserve deployments.
Mirage Systems offers both traditional metal handles and soft handles. Both utilize a steel cable and pin for proven reliability. When it comes to your reserve ripcord, we like the long established durability of steel. Our reserve ripcord cable travels a direct path to your reserve closing loop.
Mirage reserve ripcords are pocketed inside the main lift web, not just Velcro’d to the back. This provides maximum protection from dislodging and helps prevent the handle from rolling under the lift web and out of reach. When you reach for your reserve ripcord it’s good to know it will be where you expect it.
Metal Handle
Mirage’s metal handle is custom built to be slightly shorter than the D and angled from top to bottom, reducing the risk of snagging while still providing adequate size for a single or double-handed grip. The handle assemblies are built to TSO C23-d specifications and are individually proof loaded to 600 pounds before we accept them for use. These handles can easily be fitted to older rigs in the field.
Soft Handle
Mirage soft reserve ripcords are actually still metal handles! For those that prefer a soft reserve ripcord, we build ours to the same specifications and proof loading as our metal handles. Built around a full length metal insert they provide the same strength and durability as our metal handles. You can squeeze your Mirage soft reserve ripcord all you like; it will never go soft or flat.
Soft reserve handles are resistant to inadvertent snagging and floating, are offered in any color, and may be embroidered. The soft handle is great for use in conjunction with the Unisyn harness, avoiding the introduction of a stiff handle into a very flexible harness style. Both Free-flyers and Flat-flyers benefit from the use of this handle, but because of its resistance to snagging, Free-flyers consider this handle a must!
